How To Save Money On Prom Dresses

Prom dresses can be very expensive. In some cases, young women are paying over $1,000 for prom dresses.  Most of them are very similar to the dresses worn by their favorite celebrities and that are featured in magazines like “Vogue.”   Young women dream about their prom from the time they are little girls.  When the big day draws near, they want to look their best.
Are you going to prom this year?  If so, you may want to save money on your prom dress.  There are various ways to do this that will enable you to look glamorous on your big night without breaking the bank.  Here are five ways to save money on prom dresses:

1.  Buy a prom dress at a thrift shop

You may be able to get a bargain.  Since these dresses are not often worn more than once, many young women donate them to the thrift stores after they are finished with them.  You can have it cleaned and altered at your local dry cleaners.   The only problem with this option is that you have to be extremely lucky to get one that fits and you will not be wearing the current fashion.  However, you will still be able to attend the prom.

2.  Borrow a prom dress from a friend

If you have a friend who is the same size as you, see if you can borrow a prom dress from her.  This will work if your friend has gone to the prom last year and has nothing to do with her hold dress.  Again, you will not be current, but will have a suitable prom dress for the dance.

3.  Make your own prom dress

If you are handy with a needle and thread, you can make your own prom dress.  You do have to know how to sew, however, in order for this to work.  Your prom dress will be a one of a kind creation if you are gifted with a sewing needle.

4.  Make over an old prom dress

If you have an old prom dress and are handy with a needle and thread, you can make it over and add some different touches to it, like organza and beading, that will update it and make it look like new.  Again, you need to be able to sew in order to do this properly.

5.  Shop online for inexpensive prom dresses

It may surprise you, but you can get not only the most current styles when it comes to prom dresses for a lot less than you will ever pay in a store or even at a second hand shop by shopping online.  These inexpensive prom dresses mirror those worn by the celebrities but cost a fraction of the money that they spend.  In fact, you can get a full skirted prom dress in this year’s styles for less than $200 if you shop online.
If you want to save money on prom dresses, you do have several options. But in order to get the most up to date, new and stylish prom dresses, your best bet is to look online.
